If you have a tub/shower combination, the tub can be a trip hazard, a walk-in shower would be a safer option. When looking for the right shower, you will want to consider the threshold, we offer a low profile and a roll in option.
To ensure safety, grab bars are also an important feature. This may not be something you need now, but if you are redoing your shower, it is best to add blocking for the grab bars, and note the location, so that they can be installed at a later date, if needed
Glass door vs. shower curtain…the glass door gives the bathroom a nice look and helps the bathroom to appear larger, but it also restricts your opening, especially if you are trying to aid someone. The shower curtain will fold back and give you access to the entire front of the shower as opposed the glass door, you only have the door width access.
Bench seats vs. shower chairs…a fixed bench seat is a nice addition to your new shower. When doing a bench seat (depending on the length of the shower) you may want to consider doing a diverter valve with a hand-held wand that can be accessed in the seated position. If you need to aid a loved one, a movable shower chair, may work better for you, this can be put center of the shower and you can get behind them to help them as needed.
